UPSC CSE 2026 Eligibility Criteria
1. Nationality
- For IAS, IPS, and IFS: Must be a citizen of India.
- For other services: Citizens of India, Nepal, Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees settled before January 1, 1962 are eligible.
2. Educational Qualification
- Candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
- Candidates appearing in the final year of graduation can also apply provisionally.
3. Age Limit
- Minimum Age: 21 years
- Maximum Age: 32 years (as of 1 August 2026)
- Date of Birth Range: Born between 2 August 1994 and 1 August 2005
Age Relaxation:
- SC/ST – 5 years
- OBC – 3 years
- PwBD – 10 years
- Defence Personnel (disabled) – 3 years
4. Number of Attempts
- General/EWS: 6 attempts
- OBC: 9 attempts
- SC/ST: Unlimited (within age limit)
- PwBD: As per category relaxation
UPSC CSE 2026 Application Process
- Visit https://upsconline.nic.in
- Register once using the Universal Registration Number (URN) system.
- Fill the Common Application Form (CAF).
- Upload photo, live photo, and signature as per instructions.
- Pay the exam fee online and submit the form.

- General/OBC/EWS: ₹100
- Female/SC/ST/PwBD: Exempted
- Mode of Payment: Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI
UPSC CSE 2026 Selection Process
The Civil Services Examination is conducted in three stages:
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination
- Objective type (MCQs)
- Two Papers – General Studies Paper I and CSAT (Paper II)
- Each Paper: 200 marks, duration of 2 hours
- Negative marking: ⅓ mark deduction per wrong answer
- CSAT qualifying mark: 33%
Stage 2: Mains Examination
- Descriptive type (Essay + Subjective answers)
- 9 Papers total (2 qualifying + 7 for merit)
- Each paper of 3 hours duration
- Subjects include Essay, General Studies I-IV, and Optional Subjects
Stage 3: Personality Test / Interview
- 275 marks
- Tests leadership, integrity, communication, and judgment
- Final rank = Mains marks + Interview marks

UPSC CSE 2026 – Reservation Policy
- Reservation as per Government of India rules for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD categories.
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate must be issued on or after April 1, 2025.
